Funerary Stele
Project for a projection in a museum, 2026
The funerary stele of Democleides, son of Demetrios, ΔΗΜΟΚΛΕΙΔΗΣ:ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟ, probably killed in the Battle of Nemea in 394 BC, at the National Archaeological Museum of Athens.
In the space below the deceased, originally painted blue to suggest the sea, an empty migrant boat apears.

On the funerary stele of Democleides from the National Archaeological Museum of Athens, appears a migrant boat.

Nada
Postcards and an engraved polished black granite tablet, kept in its original packaging, 2025, a tribute to Goya's famous etching of the Disasters of War.
The work has been shown at the exhibition Postcards and Mail Art, at the art space Immanence, Paris, in November-December 2025.
This work could very well represent “the artist's final piece”.

Nada. Ello dirá. - Nothing. The event will tell. (in the sense of All that for nothing…)

La stèle funéraire de Démocléidès, fils de Démétrios, ΔΗΜΟΚΛΕΙΔΗΣ :ΔΗΜΗΤΡΙΟ, probablement tué à la bataille de Néméa en 394 av. JC, au Musée national archéologique d'Athènes.
Dans l'espace en-dessous du défunt, à l'origine peint en bleu pour suggérer la mer, apparaît un bateau de migrants vide.
La Méditerranée, cimetière à ciel ouvert…

Sur la stèle funéraire de Démocléidès du Musée national archéologique d'Athènes, apparaît un bateau de migrants.

Des cartes postales et une plaque gravée en granite noir poli, conservée dans son emballage d'origine, 2025, en hommage à la célèbre gravure de Goya des Désastres de la guerre.
L'œuvre a été montrée à l'exposition Cartes postales et mail art, à l'espace d'art Immanence, Paris, en novembre-décembre 2025.
Ce travail pourrait très bien représenter « la dernière œuvre de l'artiste ».

Since 2012, I have been working on a research project about my grand-parents, Hermann (called Sven) Gautel and Corona Krause, and the German Bauhaus history, with support of the Aide à la recherche artistique, CNAP, France (2013-2014), of the Bauhaus Dessau Foundation (artist in residence in 2017), and with the Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin, the Bauhaus Museum Weimar, Burg Giebichenstein Halle and the Landesmuseum Oldenburg. And of course with the precious help and support of the Gautel and Beyer families!

Depuis 2012, je travaille sur un projet de recherches sur mes grands-parents, Hermann (dit Sven) Gautel et Corona Krause, et l'histoire du Bauhaus en Allemagne, avec le soutien de l'Aide à la recherche artistique, CNAP, France (2013-2014), de la Fondation Bauhaus Dessau (résidence d'artiste en 2017), et avec le Bauhaus-Archiv Berlin, le Bauhaus Museum Weimar, la Burg Giebichenstein Halle et le Landesmuseum Oldenburg. Et bien sûr avec l'aide et le soutien précieux des familles Gautel et Beyer !

En allemand, le moment se dit « Augenblick » : le temps d'un regard.
« Chaque vrai regard est un désir », disait Alfred de Musset. Désir toujours fugace, comme dans l'expression française « la petite mort » qui désigne l'orgasme. Dans tout regard flotte déjà le temps qui passe, et la mort nous guette, comme un sous-locataire impertinent, un intrus sournois…
